In order to find a suitable location for the relic, the monk tied the bone fragment to the back of a sacred white elephant and released it into the jungle. The elephant climbed up Doi Suthep mountain and circled around before finally trumpeting three times and then lying down. Taking this as a sign, the temple was built on that spot.
